Deltora-book review

Deltora is a series of fantasy books about a land struggling to gain back control over an evil tyrant, the Shadow Lord. There is only one weapon against him, which is the Belt of Deltora, made up of seven gemstones, each from a tribe of Deltora, and each with its own magical power. However, only the heirs of the first king of Deltora, which was a blacksmith who created the Belt, could wear and use it.One day,the Shadow Lord destroyed the Belt and scattered the gems all over the land in dangerous places. This destroyed Deltora, and he took control over it.

Lief is the young heir, and he sets out with a palace guard and a young girl he meets on his travels,Jasmine to find all the gems and repair the belt to fight the Shadow Lord.He meets many enchanted monsters, but helps them all and makes many friends with people of the different tribes of Deltora. And finally, with the last gem in place,he defeated the Shadow Lord and became King of Deltora.

This book has tuaght me about bravery, and true friendship.Lief and his companions showed true bravery when they went to the dangerous places to find the gems, with the only thought of saving Deltora and their people in their minds. Also, they displayed true friendship when they risked their lives for one another. It is an interesting book, with many riddles that Lief has to solve, and finally when they defeat the Shadow Lord,it is a climxing battle and ending.

Crushing on You-book review

This book is about a girl,Shauna Philips and how she falls for her Mathematics tutor,Chad while she was dating the football team's star,Tommy. At first, she is swept away by Tommy's good looks and how his popularity made her a celebrity in her school. However, she realises that he is only taking her for granted and does not have any interest in her life, unlike Chad. She soon makes the decision to date Chad instead, and finds out that she is much happier with him.

This book teaches me that looks are not all that count in life.Good looks do not gurantee a perfect life or perfect person as he or she might not have a personality to match. We should give other average people a chance in life, and might even discover they are really fun to be with!

E-LEARNING DAY EXPERIENCE

I woke up 7 and switched on the computer, ready to start doing the work like all

normal days. the school had indeed prepared and painstakingly covered everything

from setting enough questions to making sure everyone could access all the work the

teachers prepared. There were a variety of questions asked and work given, and it

was a very interesting experience to have such "online lesons".

However, there were many pages to open and some of my friends, like me,got a little

confused after opening so many links and finding out that we did not know which was

the real piece of assignment. I hope that in the next E-learning day, the teachers

could perhaps reduce the number of links and just put the assignment on the webpage

itself,straight-forward and simple. That woudl also reduce unnecesary time loss.

Overall though, I felt my first E-learning day experience was well-organised and

interesting. We got to have a feel of lessons conducted online. I think in a case of

an emergency,we will be well enough prepared to have lessons at hoe via the

internet.I had a very interesting and fun experience today. =))

A Book Review

Book:The Clique:Revenge of the Wannabes

Author:

Reviewed by:Michelle Fong

Review:This book is about a group of 5 girls, who are also the most popular and

prettiest(or so they think)girls in their school. The book is the third in a series,

and tells of one of the girls, Alicia Riveria, getting tired of being second best to

the leader of the pack-Massie.When her other friends encourage her to form her own

clique and overthrow Massie, she starts to think they could be right. After all,to

many, she was prettier and had a better personality than Massie. Thus, she started to

defy Massie and start her own clique. When Massie finds out, she is furious and plans

to get her revenge. She embarrased Alicia, and even invited in another girl to "take

her place".Then, she intimidates the whole school to start ignoring Alicia.

In the end,Alicia and Massie make up as friends after everything Alicia did to

turn Massie's friends against Massie herself are exposed. However, Massie forgives

her and they all become one group of friends again.

I like this book as it tells me about hte ups and downs of friendship. There are

funny parts of the book and touching parts, and I feel most girls out there can

relate to this. Also,it lets us into the villian's mind(which in this case are Massie

and Alicia)and let us understand why they think like that and let us feel pity for

them too.

The book is great!=D

My Holiday Experience

The June holidays have finally came to an end.It seems too fast,au usual, but I felt I spent it well,in fact, better than the last time.

I spent alot of time in school. There was band practices at least twice weekly, and I would come home only int he afternon each time.I got my exercise there, with drills and marching, and my fair share of music exposure.

I also had to take my oral examinations for chinese during the first week of the holidays.I was so nervous on the day itself,as my chinese is rather poor.I wondered what I was going to say...Luckily,all passed well and I went home in high spirits after having a break with my friends.

I went out with my friends a few times too.Sometimes,to complete our many projects, and sometimes, for fun.As the Pirates of the Carribean came out just right for the holidays,I was exhilarated and went to watch it with my friends. As my spending money diminsihed,my fun increased and I think I did a fair share of work to earn it!

What did I do for work?I had to complete assesments everyday for my mother unless I was out with my friends.I had to do at least two subjects too.My mother hoped that this will improve my results at the end of the year, and I hoped so too.I could then sit back and relax during the November/December holidays then!

There was a few things I missed during the holidays, though.I missed my Malay Special Programme lessons,as they were fun and interesting.I also missed just being in class and having lessons with my friends. However,I think I made up for the latter by going out with them so many times!

I wanted to go to Suzhou for my school's exchange programme at first, but changed my mind later. That might enrich my holidays further,I do not know, but I decided not to risk it and find out with my already full schedule:)But even without going,I still managed to study, play and relax at the same time.Work even got added in to enrich my holiday experience as my mother insisted I had to work in her medical/provison shop during the month-long holiday!Sulkily,I sat at the counter, indirectly getting exposure to the real, working world and brushing up on my Mathematics at the same time.

I read books during the holidays too, hoping to accomplish a few of my goals, and tried to complete some projects which did not need to be handed in that early. But I was bored and so decided to kill two birds with a stone.

My holidays were spent at home, but were well-balanced,and I think I did relax and learn from my holiday experience.

Personal Targets for English

All my friends think English is a hard subject to master. However,I think otherwise. It is my favourite subject and I have set high standards for me to achieve so I will excel in it.

Firstly,I would like to improve my command of vocabulary.Whenever there are shows like shown on television,I like to watch it and try to learn from how the lawyers argue their cases out effectively in the courtroom.Their language is superb, and the words they use are difficult ones which I try to master.I want to improve it so I can speak better English and be able to express myself better when speaking. My composition will also improve this way as I can try to impress teachers with colourful words and phrases! :)Therefore,I hope I can master at least 10 new words each week, and improve my vocabulary greatly by September,in time for the final-year examinations.

Grammar is another thing I want to improve on.Growing up in Singapore, where Singlish is our "national language",we often speak in slang or Singlish, including "lah","lor" or "ah"?In fact,I fink myself using such language when conversing with friends!I hope to slowly try to speak good English and listen to the news being broadcasted every night, and listen to the way the professionals pronounce words. As I wish to be a reporter in future,I think grammar is an important matter so I can speak well on television and not be laughed at.

My understanding of comprehension passages needs to be improved on too.I find myself doing rather badly for examinations with such formats, and regret biterly when the results are announced.Comprehension open-ended questions are usually the hardest as there is no way to study for them-except to practice, which I plan to do.I hope to be able to complete an exercise everyday, and slowly improve it so I can answer accurately in future.

These few things in English are things I hope to do better in,and hope to improve on by the final-year examinations.i hope to see my grade rise to a higher level, and to be able to excel further and further in English. One must not stop studying, after all.
